Dear Friend

There is a health crisis taking shape in California, one that will only get worse until we take steps to do something positive for our future health and well being.

The supply of primary care physicians and other health professionals is dwindling. By 2030 the state could lose 10,000 primary care clinicians, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Remote rural and inner-city residents, persons of color, the elderly, those with mental illness or addiction, and those without health coverage have already felt the impact. The Central Valley has long endured provider shortages and suffers from some of the worse health outcomes in the nation.

Is there a solution?

Three Central Valley physicians and a hospital CEO have decided to tackle this problem head on by forming the San Joaquin Valley Medical Scholarship Foundation, (SJVMSF), a 501(c)(3), EIN # 84-3316050 charitable foundation dedicated to empowering students from impoverished communities to enter healthcare fields. The Foundation awards scholarships to help medical students from rural areas and other disadvantaged neighborhoods in the Valley with full tuition costs. Once they reach their goal of becoming a doctor, the newly licensed provider will return to the Valley to establish their career while helping to ensure there are sufficient numbers of health care professionals in the Central Valley for years to come.

What can you do to help?

Your tax-deductible gift will go a long way in helping us reach our fund raising goal of $25 million dollars, which 100% of will be invested with the goal of generating 4 to 5% a year, enough to pay the full tuition for five medical students per year (5 students each year at $55,000 per year x 4 years= 1,1 million dollars). SJVMSF is also seeking in-kind donations such as tuition waivers and/or scholarships from private health education entities to match the Foundation's scholarships.

ANOTHER OPTION for the Foundation is to obtain either a single donation or an annual donation pledge for a 4 year period. Once the SJVMSF reaches combined pledges of $55,000 each year for 4 years, then the Foundation will be able to provide a full tuition scholarship for one student. As each additional $55,000 in annual pledges for 4 years is reached, another student will receive a full tuition scholarship.

A third option is a donation pledge of $1,250,000 for 4 years. This will allow to fund the 20 Residents per year all at once.

We invite you to consider investing in the future health and well being of the people of the Central Valley.
